Judge David Andrew Hoffer received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University and his J.D. Order of the Coif from Boalt Hall. After passing the California bar in 1988, he worked as an associate at Irell & Manella until 1990 when he became an Assistant U.S. Attorney. In 1995 he joined Stradling, Yocca, Carlson & Rauth and remained there until he re-joined the U.S. Attorney’s office in 1997 where he later became the deputy chief of the Santa Ana office. His work in private practice focused on complex litigation. He also spent time acting as a judge pro tem at the Harbor Justice Center for small claims cases. He was appointed to the bench in 2003 by Governor Gray Davis.
