Judge Curtis A. Kin Judicial Profile

Judge Curtis Arthur Kin received his B.A. magna cum laude in international relations from the University of Southern California in 1993 and his J.D. with distinction from Stanford Law School in 1996. After passing the California bar in 1996, he worked as a law clerk in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York until joining Cravath, Swaine & Moore as an associate in 1997. In 1999, he became a law clerk to the Honorable Sonia Sotomayor at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. In 2000, he participated as a contestant on season one of the reality TV show “Big Brother.” Thereafter, he joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California as an assistant U.S. attorney, becoming Chief of the Criminal Appeals Section in 2012. During this time, he also worked as an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law and Pepperdine University School of Law. He was appointed to the bench in 2013 by Governor Jerry Brown. He is a republican.
