Judge Steven J. Kleifield Judicial Profile

Judge Steven Jay Kleifield received his A.B. from Washington University in 1975 and his J.D. from George Washington University in 1979. The following year, he passed the California bar and then joined the firm of Gordon, Edelstein, Krepack, Grant, Felton, and Goldstein where he became partner and remained until his appointment to the bench in 2002 by Governor Gray Davis. In private practice, he served as managing partner of the Personal Injury/Employment Department of his firm. While on the bench, he was appointed to preside over all asbestos-related cases for Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego counties in 2016. His wife Joyce Kleifield, director of the L.A. High’s Harrison Trust, and he helped run a teen court program in Los Angeles. He was also a member of the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, serving on its board for 10 years, and a trustree of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
