Judge Daniel Stephen Murphy received his B.A. in political science from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1984 and his J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1987 where he was on the dean’s list, received the American Jurisprudence Award for excellence in Criminal Law, and was a member of Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity. During law school he clerked at Chase, Rotchford, Drukker and Bogust. After passing the California bar in 1987, he became a prosecutor for the City of Long Beach, where he remained until being appointed to the bench in 2005 by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. He has also been a lecturer in law at the USC Gould School of Law. He is a republican.
