Born in Los Angeles, Judge David Sotelo received his undergraduate degree in politics from UC Santa Cruz in 1983 and his J.D. from UCLA Law School in 1986. After passing the California bar in 1987, he worked in private practice before joining the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office and then being appointed commissioner. He was then appointed to the bench by Governor Gray Davis in 2002. He has also helped run a teen court called Stopping Hate and Delinquency by Empowering Students (SHADES).
