Originally from San Diego, Judge Eddie Charles Sturgeon received his B.A. in economics from San Diego State University in 1970 and his J.D. from the University of Santa Clara School of Law in 1973. After passing the California bar in 1974, he worked at Tolman and Lorello, becoming partner in 1976. He then formed Miler and Sturgeon in 1978, where he stayed until becoming a sole practitioner in 1980. His work in private practice focused on criminal defense with some work in personal injury. From there, he was appointed to the San Diego County Municipal Court in 1988 by Governor George Deukmejian, and was later elevated to the San Diego Superior Court in 1998 as a result of unification. He has taught courses in business law and ethics and American government at California International Business College, and also taught at Cuyamaca College. He was also president of the Foothills Bar Association.
