Judge Fernando Lazaro Aenlle-Rocha, who was born in Havana, Cuba in 1961, received his A.B. from Princeton University in 1983 and his J.D. from Berkeley School of Law in 1986. After passing the California bar in 1987, he worked as a Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney from 1987-1990, and an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Miami from 1990-1994 and then in Los Angeles from 1994-1999. He began his work in private practice starting as an Associate at Stephan, Oringher, Richman & Theodora PC from 1999-2000 before joining McDermott, Will & Emery LLP as a Partner from 2000-2005, and then serving as a Partner at White & Case LLP from 2005-2017. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Jerry Brown in 2017, and is a Republican.
