Judge Joseph Ray Porras received his B.A. in sociology from the University of California, Berkeley and his J.D. from Loyola Law School Los Angeles. After passing the California bar in 1998, he joined the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office and worked in the Hardcore Gang Division and Crimes Against Peace Officers Section, where he remained until being appointed to the bench in 2012 by Governor Jerry Brown. He loves sports and is a democrat.
