Judge Katherine “Kate” Chilton received her B.B.A. from the University of Iowa in 1980 and her J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1985. She passed the Illinois bar in 1985 and got a job working at Kirkland & Ellis LLP. She then passed the California bar in 1987 and joined Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. In 1993, she went to work at Warner Bros. Entertainment where she worked in various roles including VP and senior litigation counsel. In 2017, she moved to Netflix Inc. where she remained until being appointed to the bench in 2020 by Governor Gavin Newsom. She serves on the Editorial Advisory Board for the Journal of Corporation Law at the University of Iowa College of Law. She is a democrat.
