Judge Kristin Sherratt Escalante received her B.A. in Architecture from University of Southern California in 1989 and her J.D. order of the coif from University of Southern California Gould School of Law in 1992. After graduation, she worked as a law clerk at the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals for the Honorable Diarmuid O’Scannlain until 1993. After passing the California bar in 1994, she worked at Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP as an associate from 1994-2001 and then as a partner from 2002-2011. She then became a partner at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips LLP from 2011-2014. While in private practice she litigated complex commercial disputes. Thereafter, she worked as senior trial counsel in the Division of Enforcement for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission from 2014 until 2017 when she was appointed to the bench by Governor Jerry Brown. She is a democrat.
