Judge Lee Wei Tsao received his B.A. in English from the University of California at Berkeley in 1992 and his J.D. from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law in 1996. After passing the California bar in 1996, he worked as a staff attorney at the Public Counsel Law Center, Immigrants’ Rights project until 1997 when he joined the public defender’s office. He remained there until being appointed to the bench in 2013 by Governor Jerry Brown. He has also served as a co-chair of judicial appointments for the California Asian-Pacific American Judges Association and is a democrat.
