Judge Mary Helen Strobel received her B.S. from the University of Illinois in 1979 and her J.D. from USC Law School in 1983. After passing the California bar in 1983, she worked at Mitchell, Silverberg and Knupp until 1985 when she joined the Santa Monica City Attorney’s Office, first as part of the Municipal Law Division and then as chief land use and planning attorney. Thereafter, she became staff counsel to the Los Angeles Charter Reform Commission before returning to the City Attorney’s Office to become general counsel, where she remained until she was appointed to the bench in 2002 by Governor Gray Davis.
