Judge Michael Innes Levanas received his undergraduate degree from UC San Diego and his J.D. from Rutgers Law School in New Jersey. After passing the California bar in 1975, he joined the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office until he became a panel lawyer on the dependency court in 1980. Thereafter, he joined a firm that eventually became Overland, Berke, Wesley, Gits, Randolph & Levanas where he focused his practice on personal injury, dependency, and child abuse and neglect cases. He was elected to commissioner in 2002 and appointed to the bench in 2005 by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. He is a democrat.
