Judge Raul Anthony Sahagun received his B.A. from Loyola University Los Angeles in 1976 and his J.D. from UCLA School of Law in 1979. After passing the California bar in 1979, he worked for the National Labor Relations Board until 1980 when he became a deputy public defender. In 1983, he went into private practice, handling criminal, personal injury, and family law cases. Then, in 1995, he became a court commissioner, was appointed to the municipal court by Governor Pete Wilson in 1997, and then became a superior court judge through unification in 2000. He enjoys traveling and cycling.
