After passing the California bar in 1984, he worked as an associate at Musick, Peeler and Garrett LLP from 1984-1985, an associate then partner at Browne, Woods, George LLP from 1986-2008, a partner at Drier, Stein, Kahan, Browne, Woods, George LLP from 2008-2009, a partner at Browne, Woods, George LLP from 2009-2001, and then of counsel at Leader Counsel LLP from 2011-2012. He focused his private practice on complex business litigation, and was appointed to the bench by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. in 2012.
