Judge Ronald Frederick Frank was born in Newark, New Jersey and received his B.A. in psychology summa cum laude from Bucknell University in 1979 and his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1982. During law school, he competed in moot court, captained the law school soccer team, was included in the Inaugural Virginia Trial Advocacy Institute, and served as an articles editor for the Virginia Journal of International Law. He was admitted to the Texas bar in 1982 and the California bar in 1983, at which point he joined the firm Geary, Stahl, and Spencer. That same year, he switched to Adams, Duque, and Hazeltine where he remained until 1989 when he joined Cadalader, Wicersham, and Taft. His last two firms were Bannan, Frank, and Terzian in 1995 and then Burke, Williams, and Sorensen in 2008. His work in private practice covered a broad range of subjects including employment law, personal injury / wrongful death, commercial and contract litigation, public works, and unfair business practices, to name a few. He was a member of the American Bar Association Section on Litigation, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and the Products Liability Committee of the Defense Research Institute. He was also named a Southern California “Superlawyer” in 2004 and from 2006 to 2015. He was appointed to the bench in 2015 by Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr.
