Motion to Quash

The motion of non-party Sonarverse, Inc., to quash defendant PIMCO’s business records subpoena served on it on June 12, 2023, is GRANTED.  (See Code Civ. Proc., § 1987.1.)  The opposition makes an attempt to justify the subpoena, but this is not a close question.

No sanctions are awarded as none were requested.  The plaintiff shall give notice.

Discovery Motions

There are seven other discovery motions on calendar, and not all from the same side.  Even a casual review of the motions, the oppositions, and the replies suggests this is but the first barrage in what will be an intense battle on the plains of discovery.

The parties should be prepared to discuss the appointment of a discovery referee.
