The Court encourages all parties to appear remotely via LA CourtConnect.  If submitting on the Court's tentative ruling, please follow the instructions provided above.

This is a PAGA action.

Defendant California Credit Union seeks a protective order staying discovery in this matter until the motion to approve PAGA settlement is heard in case no. 22STCV05451.  Defendant contends that “If the PAGA settlement is approved, it will resolve all of the PAGA claims in these two actions, rendering the PMQ deposition noticed by Plaintiff Pedroza moot. A temporary stay of discovery promotes judicial efficiency, prevents undue burden on the Credit Union and the other parties, and does not prejudice Plaintiff Pedroza as discovery can proceed if the Musquiz settlement is not approved.”

The motion for preliminary approval of settlement is currently set for July 24, 2025.

Good cause must be shown for the protective order, and the issuance and formulation of the protective order are within the Court’s discretion.  (See, e.g., Mercury Interactive Corp. v. Klein (2007) 158 Cal.App.4th 60, 106-7; Raymond Handling Concepts Corp. v. Superior Court (1995) 39 Cal.App.4th 584, 588.)

The Court has considered the matter and will, in the exercise of its discretion, stay discovery until resolution of the settlement approval in 22STCV05451.

The Motion is granted.

Moving party to give notice.
