Responding Party: Defendant Safeco Insurance Company of America

Notice: OK

Ruling: The Motion is denied.  The Court awards Redd the requested

sanctions in the amount of $88.04.  Redd is also awarded $88.04 in sanctions for her motion to compel that was heard on April 21, 2025.

Moving party to give notice.

The Court encourages all parties to appear remotely via LA CourtConnect.  If submitting on the Court's tentative ruling, please follow the instructions provided above.

This is an action in which Plaintiff Latoya S. Redd claims that Defendants failed to pay her $35,489.51 attorneys’ fee lien with settlement funds from case no. YC072873.

Redd now seeks to compel further responses to her special interrogatories, set one, from Defendant Safeco Insurance Company of America.

Defendant has provided supplemental responses.

Redd contends the Motion is not moot because the new responses are still deficient. The Court, in the exercise of its discretion, will require that counsel meet and confer and if there are still outstanding issues, Redd can file a subsequent motion to compel further responses with a separate statement addressing the supplemental responses.

Because supplemental responses have now been served, the Motion is denied as moot.

The Court, however, awards the requested sanctions in the amount of $88.04.

The Court also agreed to reconsider Plaintiff’s motion to compel further responses as to requests for production that the Court denied as moot on April 21, 2025, because Defendant similarly served supplemental responses.  The Court will not change its substantive ruling; however, the Court will award Redd $88.04 in sanctions for that Motion as well.

Moving party to give notice.
