TO CONFIRM ARBITRATION AWARD
Petition filed on 2/23/23.
MOVING PARTY: Petitioner Modern Adjustment Bureau as
assignee of Gregory Pedrick
RESPONDING PARTY: Respondent Maricela Chamorro
RELIEF REQUESTED: An order confirming the
arbitration award entered against Respondent Maricela Chamorro and in favor of
Petitioner Modern Adjustment Bureau as assignee of Gregory Pedrick and entering
judgment according to it.
RULING: The petition is granted.
The instant petition was filed after the arbitration of an
attorney-client fee dispute between attorney Gregory Pedrick and Respondent
Maricela Chamorro. On 2/24/22, the
arbitration was held in Los Angeles before arbitrators, Patrick M. Maloney,
Leonard Gross and Mark Weldman. In June
2022, an arbitration award was made which requires the client, Respondent
Maricela Chamorro, to pay Gregory Pedrick, $29,978,60. (Petition, Attachment 6(c)). Notice of the award was served on
7/13/22. Id. On 9/21/22, Gregory Pedrick, assigned the
arbitration award to Petitioner. (See
Petition, Ex.1).
On 2/23/23, Petitioner Modern Adjustment Bureau
(Petitioner) as assignee of Gregory Pedrick filed the instant petition seeking
an order confirming the arbitration award entered against Respondent Maricela
Chamorro (Respondent) and in favor of Petitioner as assignee of Gregory Pedrick
and entering judgment according to it.
On 3/16/23, the instant petition was served on Respondent
by substitute service. (See Proof of Service filed on 7/18/23). On 7/23/23, pursuant to this Court’s order,
Petitioner served Respondent with notice of the current 8/29/23 hearing
date. (See 7/17/23 Court Notice;
Notice of Continuance filed 7/18/23; Proof of Service filed 7/24/23).
Respondent has not filed a response to the petition.
Based on the foregoing, the petition is granted. The arbitration award is confirmed and
judgment will be entered according to it.
Petitioner is ordered to submit a proposed Judgment within 10 days.
