Case Number: 23CMCP00025    Hearing Date: May 2, 2023    Dept: A

23CMCP00025 In the Matter of:  Crystal Louise Murden

Tuesday, May 2, at 8:30 a.m.

[TENTATIVE] ORDER CONTINUING THE HEARING ON PETITION FOR CHANGE OF NAME

Petitioner, Crystal Louise Murden, filed this Petition on February 15, 2023, for an order to change her name to Crystal Louise Lakey. The petition is unclear as Petitioner’s legal name as reflected on her driver’s license is presently “Lakey.” Petitioner states that her mother changed her last name “by baptism.” If Plaintiff’s current legal name as reflected on her birth certificate is “Lakey,” and Petitioner’s mother informally changed her last name to “Murden,” by way of a religious ritual, then a legal change to “Lakey” is unnecessary as a baptism would not affect Petitioner’s legal name.

The court has considered the Criminal History Assessment filed on April 28, 2023, which does not reflect any substantial reason for denying the petition. However, the court’s file does not reflect that Petitioner has complied with the requirements for publication of the Order to Show Cause. Code Civ. Proc., § 1277. Accordingly, the Court continues the hearing to June 15, 2023 at 8:30 a.m. in Department A of the Compton Courthouse. Petitioner is ordered to comply with the requirements for publication of the Order to Show Cause prior to the next hearing.  Petitioner is also ordered to submit a copy of her birth certificate.
