The Court excuses the personal appearance of Claimant and the guardian ad litem. Counsel may appear by telephone or video conference call.¿
The Court reviews the petition filed for Siling Braun Liang (“Siling”) on March 22, 2024, and the petition filed for Leeren Braun Liang (“Leeren”) on April 18, 2024. Plaintiffs agreed to settle their claims against Defendants for the total amount of $88,000, with $14,000 being apportioned to Siling, and $14,000 being apportioned to Leeren.
If the settlement is approved for Siling, $3,500 will be used for attorneys’ fees. The net balance of $10,500 will be invested in a single-premium deferred annuity, subject to withdrawal only on authorization of the court.
If the settlement is approved for Leeren, $2,321.22 will be used for attorneys’ fees. The net balance of $11,678.78 will be invested in a single-premium deferred annuity, subject to withdrawal only on authorization of the court.
The Court reviews the settlement and finds it fair and reasonable.¿The Court also finds the attorney’s fees fair and reasonable, in that it amounts to 25% of Siling’s settlement and 16.5% of Leeren’s settlement. Based on the foregoing, the petitions are GRANTED.
