Expedited Petition for Approval of Minor’s Compromise for Claimant Karma Townsend (Age 16).

Tentative:

The Court excuses the personal appearance of the claimant and the guardian ad litem. Counsel may appear by telephone or video conference call.   

Petitioner filed an expedited petition on January 7, 2025. The Court reviewed and noted several deficiencies with the petition. 

On April 25, 2025, Petitioner filed a new petition. The Court has reviewed the petition and notes the following deficiencies. 

First, Claimant is receiving settlement arising from the death of her father, Jarrett Townsend. An expedited petition cannot be used for this claim of action. (See Item 3a.) 

Second, the signatures of counsel and Petitioner are unchanged from the previous petition. Each new petition must be signed by Petitioner and counsel. 

Third, Item 14a appears to list an incorrect amount sought in attorney’s fees. Based on the information provided, it appears that the correct amount is $5,625. 

Fourth, Item 14b and Attachment 14b do not match as to the expenses to be reimbursed. 

Fifth, on the proposed order filed on form MC-351, Item 1 lists no hearing was held, which is incorrect as a hearing was set for May 8, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. 

Sixth, on the proposed order filed on form MC-355, Item 1 lists no hearing was held, which is incorrect as a hearing was set for May 8, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. 

Accordingly, the Court cannot approve the expedited petition and a new petition must be filed with the Court. 

The hearing re Expedited Petition for Approval of Minor’s Compromise for Karma Townsend (Age 16) scheduled for 05/08/2025 is CONTINUED to __/__/2025 at 01:30 PM in Department 29 at Spring Street Courthouse.
