[TENTATIVE] ORDER GRANTING PETITIONS TO APPROVE MINOR’S COMPROMISE

Claimant Katelyn Laurenteen Robinson, a minor, by and through guardian ad litem Carlita Hodges, has agreed to settle claims against Defendants 6640 N. Orizaba LLC and Anza Management Company in exchange for $3,500.00.  Of this amount, $875.00 (25%) is allocated for attorney fees and $243.36 (approximately 7%) is allocated for costs and expenses, leaving a balance of $2,381.64 for Claimant.  If approved, the funds will be paid or delivered to a parent of the minor, without bond, on the terms and under the conditions specified in Probate Code sections 3401-3402.

Claimant Kye Barnes, a minor, by and through guardian ad litem Berea Hebb, has agreed to settle claims against Defendants 6640 N. Orizaba LLC and Anza Management Company in exchange for $3,500.00.  Of this amount, $875.00 (25%) is allocated for attorney fees and $243.36 (approximately 7%) is allocated for costs and expenses, leaving a balance of $2,381.64 for Claimant.  If approved, the funds will be paid or delivered to a parent of the minor, without bond, on the terms and under the conditions specified in Probate Code sections 3401-3402.

Claimant Savannah Jeffries, a minor, by and through guardian ad litem Jeffery Jeffries, has agreed to settle claims against Defendants 6640 N. Orizaba LLC and Anza Management Company in exchange for $3,500.00.  Of this amount, $875.00 (25%) is allocated for attorney fees and $243.36 (approximately 7%) is allocated for costs and expenses, leaving a balance of $2,381.64 for Claimant.  If approved, the funds will be paid or delivered to a parent of the minor, without bond, on the terms and under the conditions specified in Probate Code sections 3401-3402.

Claimant Golden Echols, a minor, by and through guardian ad litem India Gibbs, has agreed to settle claims against Defendants 6640 N. Orizaba LLC and Anza Management Company in exchange for $3,500.00.  Of this amount, $875.00 (25%) is allocated for attorney fees and $243.36 (approximately 7%) is allocated for costs and expenses, leaving a balance of $2,381.64 for Claimant.  If approved, the funds will be paid or delivered to a parent of the minor, without bond, on the terms and under the conditions specified in Probate Code sections 3401-3402.

Claimant Beyond Echols, a minor, by and through guardian ad litem India Gibbs, has agreed to settle claims against Defendants 6640 N. Orizaba LLC and Anza Management Company in exchange for $3,500.00.  Of this amount, $875.00 (25%) is allocated for attorney fees and $243.36 (approximately 7%) is allocated for costs and expenses, leaving a balance of $2,381.64 for Claimant.  If approved, the funds will be paid or delivered to a parent of the minor, without bond, on the terms and under the conditions specified in Probate Code sections 3401-3402.

Court approval is required for all settlements of a minor’s claim.  (Prob. Code, §§ 3500, 3600, et seq.; Code Civ. Proc., § 372.)  The Court has reviewed the proposed settlement and finds that it is fair and reasonable.

Accordingly, the Petitions to Approve Minor’s Compromise are GRANTED.

The Court sets an Order to Show Cause Re: Proof of Payment for August 11, 2025 at 8:30 a.m.  If acknowledgements of receipt by the Claimants’ parents are filed before that date, no appearance will be required.

Moving party to give notice.

Parties who intend to submit on this tentative must send an email to the Court at SMCDEPT48@lacourt.org indicating intention to submit.  If all parties in the case submit on the tentative ruling, no appearances before the Court are required unless a companion hearing (for example, a Case Management Conference) is also on calendar.
