[TENTATIVE] ORDER GRANTING IN PART MOTION
TO CONTINUE ALL UPCOMING DEADLINES AND HEARINGS Dept. 48 8:30 a.m. April 24, 2025 |
On October 29, 2024, Plaintiff
William Leo Jackson filed this action against Defendants Los Angeles County Sheriffs,
Los Angeles County Sheriffs Men Central Jail, and Robert Luna in his Capacity of
Sheriff of Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department and Facilities Only.
On
February 19, 2025, Plaintiff filed a motion for continuance of all upcoming deadlines
and hearings.
Plaintiff
explains that he was transferred to a different prison and was expected to remain
in reception for approximately 90 days, and he would be without full access to legal
resources until April 14, 2025. That date
has now passed, so the request for a continuance is moot.
Plaintiff
also requests an order for transportation to in-person hearings or an order permitting
him to participate in hearings via telephone.
The Court cannot grant open-ended access to phone calls or transportation
for all hearings without specifying the hearing dates and times. The Court will, however, consolidate the upcoming
hearings and order that Plaintiff be given access to appear remotely.
The
motion is GRANTED IN PART.
The
Case Management Conference scheduled for April 29, 2025 at 8:30 a.m. is advanced
to this date and CONTINUED to August 19, 2025 at 8:30 a.m.
The
Hearing on Motion for Order Removal and Transportation scheduled for May 29, 2025
at 8:30 a.m. is advanced to this date and CONTINUED to August 19, 2025 at 8:30 a.m.
The
Hearing on Demurrer - without Motion to Strike remains on calendar for August 19,
2025 at 8:30 a.m.
The
CDCR is ordered to produce Plaintiff William Leo Jackson, Inmate Number BZ3572,
who is incarcerated at the High Desert State Prison, 475-750 Rice Canyon Rd., Susanville,
CA 96127 for his appearance by remote means in the matter of the above-referenced
action on August 19, 2025 at 8:30 a.m.
Clerk
to give notice.
Parties
who intend to submit on this tentative must send an email to the Court at SMCDEPT48@lacourt.org
indicating intention to submit. If all parties
in the case submit on the tentative ruling, no appearances before the Court are
required unless a companion hearing (for example, a Case Management Conference)
is also on calendar.
Dated this 24th day of April 2025
